Bent Plywood Bed Headboard and Side Rail
A formed headboard curve and side rail that keep a bed frame rigid without a solid timber section.
A bed frame fails at the joints, not in the middle of the rail. By making the headboard and side rail from moulded plywood with the fixing points formed into the panel, we move the stiffness away from the joint and into the panel geometry. The result is a lighter frame that still feels rigid.

Where bed frames actually fail
The load path runs through the headboard to the foot post and then to the floor. A flat panel concentrates stress at the fixing point; a formed curve spreads it across the panel width, which is why a thinner plywood section can outperform a heavier flat one.
Wide headboards and jointing
Headboards wider than about 1.6 m are supplied as jointed sections with a finger-joint line. We machine the joint faces to a repeatable datum so the assembled panel stays flat and the curve remains continuous across the line.
Finishing a large panel
For large panels we recommend a film or spray finish rather than brush lacquer, because the time between coats matters more as the panel size grows. We can supply the component ready for your finishing line.
