Bent Wood FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most from furniture, lighting and interior brands about custom bent wood manufacturing. If your question is not here, send it to our team.

Manufacturing and capabilities

What bent wood products do you manufacture?

Bent plywood and solid bent wood components: chair frames, chair backs, chair arms, seat and back slats, table aprons, edge bands, panels, strips, arch components and lighting components — all made to your drawings.

What materials do you work with?

White ash, beech, birch, black walnut, oak and mixed hardwoods, in solid steam-bent or laminated construction. FSC/PEFC-certified stock is available.

What is your MOQ and lead time?

Low MOQ — prototypes from a single piece. Prototypes are delivered in 7–15 days and bulk orders in 15–30 days.

Do you manufacture from customer drawings?

Yes. We work from CAD files, technical drawings, physical samples or photographs, and confirm feasibility before quoting.

What certifications do you hold?

ISO 9001 quality management, with FSC/PEFC-certified materials available for EU and US programmes.

Do you ship to Europe and North America?

Yes — we ship globally, with regular programmes to the EU, US and Southeast Asia, and a full warranty against warping and cracking in transit and use.

Can you replicate an existing bent wood part?

Yes — send the original part or a sample and we will match the profile, dimensions and finish for replacement or repeat production.

How do I request a quotation?

Send your drawings, samples and target quantities through our contact page and we will respond with a quotation within 24 hours.

Process and tooling

What is the smallest radius you can bend?

It depends on species, thickness and grain direction. As a working rule, straight-grained ash or oak with a compression strap reaches ratios down to about 1:2; we recommend 1:5 as the production maximum and 1:10 as typical. Tighter or compound curves usually mean lamination. Send your drawing and we will confirm.

Do you build the moulds in-house?

Yes — forms and jigs are designed and built in our own facility, which is why a design change between prototype and production is a tooling update rather than a new supplier relationship. Moulds built for your programme remain yours and are kept on file for repeat orders.

Can you work from a sketch or a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. Sketches, concepts, reference images and physical samples are all enough to start. We come back with feasibility, material recommendations and a prototype plan before any tooling is committed.

Programmes and supply

Do you supply finished, ready-to-assemble components?

Yes — parts can be delivered sanded, finished, machined with fixing points and packed to your specification, ready for your assembly line. We can also supply bent blanks for your own machining.

How do repeat orders stay consistent?

The approved sample, the mould, the process parameters and the inspection criteria are all documented and kept on file. A repeat order two years later runs the same tooling against the same records, so the parts match the first batch.

What are your payment and shipping terms?

Terms are confirmed with each quotation — they depend on the programme, the destination and the stage of the relationship. Shipping is global, with regular programmes to the EU, US and Southeast Asia.

Can you supply small trial orders before a full programme?

That is exactly what our MOQ structure is designed for: a prototype or small first batch validates the part before you commit to volume, on the same tooling that will later run production.

Materials and finishing

Which wood species should I choose?

Ash for pale, load-bearing, tight-radius parts; beech for painted and traditional work; birch plywood for compound curves and volume consistency; walnut for premium surfaces. Our species guides — ash, beech, birch plywood, walnut — compare them in detail.

What finishes do you offer?

Raw, sanded, oiled, stained or lacquered, with edges eased or profiled as specified. Weather-resistant finishes are available for outdoor programmes.

Will the parts move in service?

All wood moves with humidity. Parts are dried in their forms to a working moisture content and verified before machining, and we set the target against your destination market — equilibrium moisture content indoors typically runs 6–12%. Correctly specified parts move very little; incorrectly dried ones check and loosen joints, which is why this is a specification rather than an assumption.

Still have a question?

Send it through our contact page — technical questions about feasibility are answered with the quotation, within 24 hours.

Quality and warranty

What does your warranty cover?

A full warranty against warping and cracking during transportation and use, with a secure return and replacement policy. If a batch fails at your end, tell us — inspection reports let us trace the issue to a stage, and the warranty exists to be used.

What happens if a part fails your inspection?

Batches are audited against your specification before shipment, and reports accompany the goods. If something reaches you out of specification, we rework or replace under the warranty.

Can you supply test samples before production?

Yes — and we recommend it. A prototype tests fit, finish and geometry in your assembly rather than against the drawing, and it is the cheapest place to discover a problem.

Working together

How do you handle confidentiality?

Client drawings, moulds and product data stay yours. Moulds built for your programme are not used for others, and we work under confidentiality for development projects.

Do you work with small studios as well as large brands?

Both. Independent designers developing a first range and established brands running volume programmes — the low MOQ structure is designed so a first order validates the design rather than filling a container.

What is the best way to start?

Send the drawing or sample, the material and finish, the quantity, and the application. That is enough for a feasibility answer and a quotation within 24 hours — and if the design needs adjusting to bend reliably, you will hear that at quotation stage rather than after a broken sample.
