The large-format ash panel: 120 x 40 x 2 cm, laminated with white ash faces. This is the biggest standard surface in our range — the panel specified when a design needs a broad curved area in one piece: full chair backs, wide seat elements, large decorative surfaces.
What the dimensions mean
At 120 x 40 cm the panel covers a full chair back or a wide seat without a joint — the difference between a continuous surface and one broken by a seam. At 2 cm it has real presence and stiffness; the thicker section suits larger panels because stiffness out of plane scales with thickness, and a 120 cm span needs it. The ash faces give a pale, open-grained surface that finishes like solid ash.

Where this size is used
- Full chair backs — one continuous curved surface from seat to top.
- Wide seat elements — broad seat surfaces on lounge and contract seating.
- Large decorative panels — feature surfaces in retail and interiors.
- Back panels on benches — continuous backs across long runs.
Engineering a large panel
Size is the engineering challenge here. A 120 x 40 cm panel pressed to a curve has to come out of the mould flat enough to handle, hold its curve without relaxing, and stay stable across seasons — and the larger the panel, the more any variation in the layup shows as a twist. The cross-laminated construction is what makes it possible: the layers pull against each other, so the panel resists the warping and cupping that a single-piece panel of this size would suffer. Springback is held to 1–3%, and every panel is verified against the mould before it leaves the workshop.
Faces and finishes
The white ash faces finish exactly like solid ash: oil for a pale natural surface where the open grain reads, stain for colour programmes, lacquer where the piece will be cleaned commercially. For a dark surface at this size, the same panel is available with walnut faces — see our walnut plywood. Edges show the layer lines; where the design hides them, they are not seen.
Frequently asked questions
Can larger panels be produced?
Yes — dimensions are made to your drawing, with feasibility confirmed against the radius and the press capacity before quoting.
Is the face solid ash?
The faces are ash veneer over a laminated core; the edges show the layer lines.
Will a panel this size stay flat in service?
The cross-laminated construction resists warping and cupping — that is precisely why large curved surfaces are laminated rather than solid.
Can mounting points be machined?
Yes — drilled and routed fixing points to your specification, machined before finishing.
Summary
120 x 40 x 2 cm of ash-faced laminate — the largest standard curved surface in the range, stable across seasons and identical every cycle. Send the drawing with your curve and finish; we confirm the layup, quote within 24 hours, and deliver prototypes in 7–15 days.

Programme notes
A 120 cm panel is a production commitment: the press, the mould and the finishing line all have to handle the size, and the packing has to protect a broad curved surface in transit. For programmes standardising on a back panel, the consistency argument is the strong one — the same mould produces every unit, so the curve is identical across the collection and across years of re-orders. Tooling records and the approved sample are kept on file for exactly that purpose.
For hospitality programmes, tell us the test standard the finished seating must meet; we will confirm the layup and section against it and supply test samples before the run.
